TYPES OF LEATHER MATERIALS WE USE
There are main two types of leather materials we use on our patches.
- GENUINE LEATHER
- ARTIFICIAL / FAUX LEATHERS.
We offer both types. both these materials have further various kinds, such as genuine leather are of two different kinds; Split leather and Full-Grain Leather. Whereas, Faux leather comes in different colors.
Every leather type is used for different purpose for example. Artificial leathers are mostly Debossed and printed. whereas, genuine leathers are mostly Embossed and Laser engraved due to their ruggedness and high endurance. That is why we recommend leather patch and their print type according to customer’s application and purpose.
GENUINE LEATHER
Genuine leather patches, often raw and rough in nature, provide a unique, antique, and natural feel that appeals to those who appreciate authenticity. The raw texture and natural imperfections in genuine leather give each patch a distinct character, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the product. This rustic and timeless quality adds a touch of uniqueness and craftsmanship, making it a popular choice for brands aiming to create a vintage or artisanal look.
ARTIFICIAL / FAUX LEATHER
Faux leather, often referred to as synthetic or vegan leather, is widely used to achieve sharp, consistent, and neat results, addressing the natural variations found in genuine leather. Genuine leather can differ in color, thickness, and debossing across the same sheet, leading to inconsistencies. To overcome this, faux leather is preferred, offering uniformity and precision in manufacturing. It is available in black, camel, mustard, brown, cream, and maroon colors, allowing for greater design flexibility and consistency in production.
Types of Prints on Leather Patches
Leather patches come in three different types of imprints, each suited to the specific type of leather and its intended application. These imprints include:
- Embossed / Debossed Leather Patch
- Printed Leather Patch
- Laser Engraved Leather Patch
EMBOSSED / DEBOSSED
Debossed means pressing a design into the leather, creating a sunken impression.
Embossing raises the design above the leather's surface, creating a 3D effect.
PRINTED
This method involves applying ink directly onto the leather's surface, ideal for Multicolored designs. It's commonly used on both genuine and faux leather patches where durability and color vibrancy are key considerations
LASER ENGRAVED
Laser engraving on leather patches adds a unique, permanent mark by subtly burning the surface, creating a rich, contrasting design. This technique enhances the patch with a tactile, textured feel, making it stand out with a distinct, professional look
Backing types
Iron-On Backing
Iron-on patches have an adhesive backing that makes them easy to apply to various fabrics. However, this method is not suitable for non-fabric patches, as the heat may damage the material.
Sew-On Backing
Sew-on backing is the best option for patches. Given that leather requires careful handling during attachment, having your patches professionally sewn on ensures a secure and durable fit.
Velcro Backing
If you need patches that are easy to remove and reposition, Velcro-lined leather patches are ideal. We use high-quality hook-and-loop backing for all our Velcro patches to ensure reliability and ease of use.
